The idea for this piece came about when I was studying the blooms of our 'dendrobium' orchid for a painting I was working on. This was one of two quick drawings I made in my sketchbook. It seemed to have quite an artistic feel to it -- a sketchy background combined with a detailed orchid flower -- so I decided to draw it again on good paper.
