Here is a cheese sandwich painting. I am pleased with how the bread turned out. This is the second time I’ve painted bread. The first one was this peanut butter sandwich.

I am lagging way behind with the daily paintings here. I have been able to complete a painting a day, but I just wasn’t able to post them consistently everyday. I will make up in future posts.

The leftover green paint that I mixed for the bluebird painting was used for the background here (mixed with a little bit more blue and red to darken). I don’t know why, but there is something about this shade of green that I really like. It looks so much more contemporary than the earthy colors I usually use, but I love it. I hope you like it too!

The leftover gray and violet mixtures I had from the previous painting were mixed together and used for the background here. I really like the dull violet color it produced.

I was very happy to find this little tangerine from the grocery. I love it when the leaves are still attached. I think they add a lot of character.

Making the background smooth was a challenge, but I really love how this turned out. I like how the plum is so low in the painting.

I am saving this painting for a second layer. I accidentally applied too much linseed oil on the board before I started painting so the paint became so liquid, it was very difficult to make some areas smooth and even.

I tried out a smoother painting board for “Three Tomatoes” which I made by sanding the last layer of gesso. I’m not sure if I like painting on this any better than on the unsanded board. I will have to try it out some more before I conclude anything, but the paint did feel so much more fluid on it.

I’m very pleased with this painting. I was able to finish it easily — every brush stroke seemed to fall in its proper place the first time around. I love that. I think the time I spent to analyze the subject and the colors helped greatly.

I had a late start on this painting and I spent over an hour thinking of what to paint. We had some mangoes around but I couldn’t find a composition for them. So I asked my brother David for help and he set this black mug against the mango.

I am posting two paintings today and both feature this black mug.

By the way, the painting fell face down as I was waiting for it to dry so I had to do a second layer to fix the damaged areas.

I really enjoyed painting “Happy New Year” so I decided to do another one with a similar concept. Thinking of subjects for these trompe l’oeils is just as much fun as painting them and trying to make them look realistic.

Here’s a new trompe l’oeil painting. For those who find this post a bit late with almost 2 weeks past now since New Year’s Day, I’ll explain. I started creating a painting a day on June 20, 2009, but I only managed to get this blog going on July 4, 2009. Although it means that I am always ahead by about 15 paintings, each one is posted to this blog in the order that I painted them. I didn’t plan the date before painting this trompe l’oeil and its turn only came up today.

Looking back, I am thankful that I have been able to finish one painting a day, except for one day when I painted two (red pepper and green pepper) and another day when I worked on a portrait instead of a daily painting.

This one was painted from a picture I took a while back. It’s my first time to paint these round eggplants but I am very pleased with how it turned out. Although I much prefer the taste of the longer, violet eggplants, I must say that these round ones are just as much fun to paint.
