Oil painting on hardboard
Approximately 7 x 5 inches — 18 x 13 cm
SOLD

Here’s another painting of one of my most favorite subjects — peeled citrus fruits. I never get tired of painting them and this grapefruit especially was a lot of fun to do.

I spent several days visiting relatives in the countryside last week. I can’t wait to paint some landscapes from the pictures that I took there! Here are a few photos:

Photo - Farm Scene of Rice Fields

Photo: Farm Scene | Most of the tall grasses were brown and dried but the paddies were already planted full of rice!

Photo - Makahiya - Touch Me Not Flower

Photo: The “Makahiya” or “Touch Me Not” Flower | A plant which closes its leaves when touched. It’s too bad I wasn’t able to see it firsthand as I only learned about this interesting trait when I returned home.

Photo - Shady Dirt Road

Photo: Shady Dirt Road | I love shady, tree-lined dirt roads…

Photo - Sunlit Treetops

Photo: Sunlit Treetops | …And bright, sunlit treetops!

Photo - Nesting Hen

Photo: Nesting Hen | I was so excited when I saw this hen sitting inside the basket. I wish I could have gotten closer to take a better photograph but I didn’t want to spook her!

Catching up on a few things that happened during the last three weeks…

A week or so ago, Judy Felker featured some of my work on her blog Creative Wonder. Stop by for a visit and check out the other artists she’s featured. I’ve “discovered” a number of new favorites myself.

Also about a week ago, Michel Oosterhout invited me to submit my Apple Half painting below to his An Apple a Day project. Check it out!

Apple Half Painting - Realistic

And about two weeks or so ago, I received in the mail this beautiful pencil drawing from one of the sweetest and kindest persons I know. Sherry is a fabulous artist and I hope you will take time to visit her blog. Lately, she has also begun posting photos of her drawings in progress so you can see how she creates her realistic, and often very intricate, drawings.

Brown Egg on Wooden Box

Oil painting on hardboard
Approximately 6 x 6 inches — 15 x 15 cm
SOLD

Here’s another brown egg painting. It has a similar “monochrome” color scheme as the last one. I had a very difficult time trying to get the colors on the screen to match the original. The shadow part of the egg is a little more magenta in reality. You will see more of these brown eggs in the future as I really enjoy painting them. I have a whole dozen tray of them bought specially for painting!

Also, I am pleased to announce that I am now a featured artist on Daily Paintworks! I was invited by David Marine (founder of the site and husband of fab daily painter Carol Marine) a couple of days ago and I’m really thrilled and honored to be part of this group! If you haven’t seen it yet, DailyPaintworks.com also has auctions that are exclusively for original art. Check it out — as far as I know, it’s the first of its kind!

Orange Glow

Oil painting on hardboard

It’s quite frustrating coming back to painting after leaving it for so long. I felt really rusty and was unable to bring myself to finish those which I’ve started. To see if it will help, I returned to a favorite subject which I’ve painted many times before: the orange. It did. It was pure joy to do this one, and what’s more, I really love how it turned out!

Red, White, Blue - Painting of Marbles in Oil

Red, White, Blue

Oil painting on hardboard
Approximately 6 x 6 inches — 15 x 15 cm
SOLD

I’m back to posting new paintings again after a terribly long break. It was anything but a “vacation” though. My father had a major stroke last February. This left him bedridden and dependent on my Mom, brother and me for almost everything. We dropped everything we were doing as the hospital became our home for a while. I did plan on doing some pencil drawings there, but I couldn’t find the energy nor the interest to do anything. Unfortunately, this went on for a good while after we were back home again. It took some time for us to adjust to the new schedules, duties and lifestyle. I can’t say we’ve finally settled down, but I did manage to start painting again several weeks ago.

I have lots to catch up on, but it feels good to be back again.

I apologize for the glare in the image above. I had a very difficult time taking a photo of it and it’s still not dry enough to scan. I will replace it with a better one when it is available.

I also made a video slideshow of the painting for Daily Painter Originals‘ recently launched Video blog. I hope you like it!

Inspiration for “Sweet Hearts” came when one of my other strawberries painting was included in this Etsy treasury by member OneofakindSites. Only then did I realize that strawberries do look a lot like hearts!

By the way, a “treasury” is a small collection of items sold on Etsy chosen by a member or user there. The member usually picks a theme and features a few items related to it.

Dramatic Grapefruit Wedge Painting

Grapefruit Wedge

Oil painting on hardboard
Approximately 6 x 6 inches — 15 x 15 cm
SOLD

I really, really love how this turned out! I was going for a dramatic look and wanted to highlight the glowing red flesh of the grapefruit so I went with overhead lighting and added a slight glow around the edges of the fruit.

This was the very first time I tasted grapefruit, by the way. I’ve always had the impression that it was very bitter, but it was not and I really liked it. To compare the taste with the more readily available fruits here in the Philippines, it was something like a cross between pomelo and langsat (which we call “lansones” here).

I have painted quite a few pears before but I never seem to get tired of doing them. In this particular pear painting, I wanted the background to be a stained old concrete wall so I added the streaks of gray and light yellows.

I can’t decide if this is a silly title for this painting, but I wanted to use something other than “Plum and Grapes”. My favorite part is the bluish bloom on the fruits, hence the title.

Here are two more of my most favorite daily paintings from the past. I couldn’t help making the first of these tangerine wedges a companion piece because I loved the background color so much.

Doing the “dailies” gave me opportunity to paint subjects I would never have tried otherwise. Some were easy, some a lot of fun and some were challenging. One that I would categorize in all three are water puddles: easy because they are basically just shadow color with highlights; challenging when reflections come into play, but either way, fun to paint!

Yay! Here it is! The 365th daily painting! I have to mention that I actually completed this painting quite a while ago but only managed to post it today as there were some rough roads during the latter part of this journey. Blogging about the paintings consistently once per day was easy enough at the start but personal issues came in during the last several months which stretched out the postings. If some of you waited regularly for the paintings, I apologize for this.

The good news though is that I did manage to complete all 365 small paintings in 365 days, with the exception of one day when I worked on this bigger non-daily painting instead:

Oil Portrait Painting by Faith Te

I made up for that when I painted these two chilis in one day though:

Red Chili Pepper - Oil Painting Green Chili Pepper - Oil Painting

I am really excited to be able to show all of you this milestone (for me). I can’t say how grateful I am to everyone who purchased my paintings — thank you so much for your support! And not least, I am also thankful to those of you who took the time to comment and patiently shared this journey with me. For those who commented during the past several months, I have not been able to reply to most of you personally but I want you all to know just how much I appreciate your words of encouragement. Here’s a virtual hug to everyone!

Just for fun, here is the 365th side by side with the very first daily painting I did:

Here is a picture showing the painting on the easel where I did virtually all of the “dailies”:

And last, here are those avocados one more time. Behind me you can see a preview of what’s coming up on this blog:

I used the same green cloth as the one in the previous apple painting because I loved its silky texture and the fringe edge. So fun to paint!
