Lemon on Wood - Dramatic Oil Painting

Daily Painting #361 – Lemon on Wood

Oil painting on hardboard

I’m not sure why but I had a very difficult time trying to get the colors to match the original painting and some parts are still a bit off. This is now #361 — getting really close to the “finish line”!

Only 5 more to post to complete the first 365 of daily paintings! Here’s a new subject — okra. I have considered painting them for quite some time now, but I never got around to it because I couldn’t find a composition I wanted to paint.

Playing a little with “glowing edges” around those green sprouts. This is something I would like to incorporate more into my work. I think it adds a lot of drama to a painting.

This lemon wheel completes the series of three citrus slices that I did some time ago. The other two were an orange wheel and a lime wheel. I included an image below to show all three side by side.

I used the same green cloth as the one in the previous apple painting because I loved its silky texture and the fringe edge. So fun to paint!

We’ve had this Hohner harmonica for decades although I still haven’t learned to play it. I’ve always wanted to paint it because of its antique look, but I could never find the perfect composition for it. For sure I’ll be doing another painting which will feature it better.

By the way, I keep forgetting to mention that artist Monica Burnette recently talked about edges in paintings on her blog and she featured my “Grapes in Small Bowl” in one of her posts. Check it out here! Thank you, Monica!

My fellow members at Daily Painter Originals, Kelley MacDonald and Susan Roden, are having a donut exchange over at their blogs (more popularly known as the “Donut War”). They have been throwing donuts (paintings, of course) of all brands, shapes and colors — sugar-coated, frosted, jelly-filled, chocolate. Current status of the Donut war is a truce so, I think, this is as good a time as any to show my neutral, plain glazed donut.

Strawberry Lollipop Painting - Oil

Daily Painting #339 – Strawberry Lollipop

Oil painting on hardboard
Approximately 5 x 7 inches — 13 x 18 cm
SOLD

My new favorite subject — lollipops!

When I began this blog, my personal goal was to keep it updated with new paintings strictly on a daily basis for at least one year. Well, I’m guilty of not being able to keep that goal, most especially during the past two and a half weeks.

On a positive note though, I sold some of the small paintings and spent those two and a half weeks packing and mailing them as well as finishing a commission. To those who have bought my paintings or commissioned me, thank you so much for your support!

There are only a few more days left before I officially close my 70 Paintings for $70 Each Anniversary Special. It’s only until the 15th of August. After which, prices will go back to the original $100 or $80. Shipping is free anywhere in the world for all paintings. Click on the image below to see the 70 paintings included in the sale:

(Shows 45 paintings on the first page. Click on “Older Entries” at the end to see the other 25.)

I can remember when I was just starting out as a daily painter that I hated to do grapes. I thought then that they were just too difficult to paint correctly. Anyway, they are now a favorite subject of mine. I find it really gratifying to see the little berries come to life as I paint the bloom!

One of my most favorite painting of grapes that I have done is the one above. This will be the last grapes painting included in the 365 Daily Paintings so I thought I’d compile all that I have done since the beginning…well, let’s start with the second that I did since the first one was what made me hate painting grapes in the first place!

This is actually a Fuji apple without most of the pink and red streaks. When I saw that it was almost all yellow, I just had to paint it.

The daily painting updates have been quite few and very inconsistent, especially the past several weeks. My father suddenly became ill (with labyrinthitis and vertigo) around the
middle of May and was bedridden the whole day, everyday during the first few weeks. I still managed to continue painting and finishing one daily painting each day, but I had very limited time for it, in addition to the blog posting and other work.

Although my father is steadily improving each week and I am slowly regaining more time for my work, I still haven’t been able to focus very much. So if you have been wondering why the decreasing updates, this is the reason.

I truly apologize to all those who sent me e-mail and other messages whom I still have not been able to respond to yet. The daily painting project by itself has required a lot of time (painting and posting), so with all the things going on lately, everything that needed to be done just piled up. Please know that I am not ignoring anyone and that I will still respond to your e-mail and messages, especially those who asked questions. It may still take time for me to get back on track, but I am working on it. I hope you understand.
