This is a painting of the tropical fruit star apple or caimito/cainito. I have not eaten one of these in a long while that I have actually forgotten what they taste like. They are delicious!

These chili peppers were such beautiful shades of green, I just had to paint them! I like how the ends are out of focus, giving the painting more depth.

I’ve been wanting to do this composition for quite some time now, but I kept putting it off because I was intimidated by the glass dish. Well, these baby tangerines wouldn’t keep any longer so I had no choice but to do it. Surprisingly, this painting was fun and I didn’t come across any difficulties at all.

I tried out a smoother painting board for “Three Tomatoes” which I made by sanding the last layer of gesso. I’m not sure if I like painting on this any better than on the unsanded board. I will have to try it out some more before I conclude anything, but the paint did feel so much more fluid on it.

I love painting crumbs. I do these by painting dots of shadow color and dragging them with a soft brush, and then going back and adding a lighter color for the crumbs.

I’ve come to accept that finishing one painting each and every day would mean that some of these will not always turn out the way I hoped for.
One of those which did not turn out very well was this bowl of rice. I had a very difficult time painting the rice realistically, in addition to the bowl.
But with every painting, be it a failure or a success, there are always lessons to be learned. What I learned as a result of this painting was that I really should take the extra time to analyze the subject carefully…and that those colorful little dots on the chopsticks were so much fun to paint!

Cake may be my second most favorite treat…next to ice cream. We usually make our own simple version from cake mix which come in boxes, but I think this was the first time I’ve eaten one which had all the extras — cherry, icing and all.

I’m very pleased with this painting. I was able to finish it easily — every brush stroke seemed to fall in its proper place the first time around. I love that. I think the time I spent to analyze the subject and the colors helped greatly.

I had a late start on this painting and I spent over an hour thinking of what to paint. We had some mangoes around but I couldn’t find a composition for them. So I asked my brother David for help and he set this black mug against the mango.
I am posting two paintings today and both feature this black mug.
By the way, the painting fell face down as I was waiting for it to dry so I had to do a second layer to fix the damaged areas.

My Mom bought these green eggplants for me to paint. These are “new” eggplants to me. They are pricier than the violet eggplants and have a slightly stronger flavor, but they rot very quickly. They are beautiful though with light green markings at the bottom.
I am once again about 2 paintings behind schedule on this blog and I will have to make up for that in the next few days.

These are shells of clams I kept many years ago. I remember that I would always want to keep the shells whenever we had clams for dinner. I didn’t really know what I would do with them, but I loved looking at the different patterns. Some shells were thick and looked like shiny laminated wood on the outside while some were thin and delicate. All of them are beautiful.
