A while back, I painted these Dendrobium orchid buds. Here’s a painting of one of those buds fully opened.
Phthalo blue is a very powerful color and I have to constantly remind myself to use only a small amount. Too much usually results in a pile of mud-looking mixture.
I often forget, however. I don’t think I’ve ever used it on a background and didn’t end up scraping it off and trying again. This usually means that after the painting is done, I’ll end up with a pile of “mud mix” from the background attempts which didn’t turn out right.
