I love my tube of ultramarine blue! I am very pleased with how this turned out and I really enjoyed painting it, especially the lettering along the bottom part of the label.

The background color I used here is the same as the one in the Tangerine Wrapped in Plastic painting. I like how objects seem to “pop” when against it. It’s a mix of burnt sienna and cad yellow with some ultramarine blue for the shadows.

This is the second daily painting today since I missed posting yesterday.

I wanted to try something “creative”. I taped a branch of grape vine to a piece of paper and drew in the grapes with red marker pens. I was thinking along the lines of trompe l’oeil.

The challenge was to make the leaves and the branch look very realistic in order to make the outline of the grapes look like they were just drawn and not part of the “real” branch.

I decided to create an almost grayscale painting because I didn’t have a lot of time to paint the day I did this. Plus, I wanted to try making “real blacks” with ultramarine and the new tube of burnt sienna we just bought instead of the deep violet (ultramarine and alizarin crimson mix) that I usually use for shadows and darks. I enjoyed it and will probably be using this same palette soon.
