Here are two more of my most favorite daily paintings from the past. I couldn’t help making the first of these tangerine wedges a companion piece because I loved the background color so much.
Doing the “dailies” gave me opportunity to paint subjects I would never have tried otherwise. Some were easy, some a lot of fun and some were challenging. One that I would categorize in all three are water puddles: easy because they are basically just shadow color with highlights; challenging when reflections come into play, but either way, fun to paint!

Phalaenopsis orchids are some of my most favorite flowers. I find them very elegant and great painting subjects. I really like this light violet/pink variety against the gray green background.
On another note, my good friend Sherry recently started a new blog. She is doing a weekly challenge where you can join her paint or draw from a single reference photo. Sherry is a kind and wonderful lady and a great artist! Be sure to stop by her blog and join in: http://artistsherry.blogspot.com/

Before I post another new painting, here’s an older one from the 365 daily paintings. It was one of my favorites and still is. There is something about the dark green background that I find very appealing and I will likely be using it again in future paintings.

Some of you may remember this bowl of rice painting I did many, many months ago. I wasn’t pleased with how it turned out so I gave it a makeover and here’s what it looks now. Hope you like it better. I used the Mars Red again to intensify the reds and deepen the background a little.

After a long (unintended) break, here is a new post to start the New Year right. I just recently bought a tube of Mars Red and I’m having a lot of fun with it. The background in the rice painting above was painted with it. Alone or with a bit of blue, it’s a gorgeous deep red color which is very opaque. So nice to paint with!
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season. Happy New Year, my friends!

Yay! Here it is! The 365th daily painting! I have to mention that I actually completed this painting quite a while ago but only managed to post it today as there were some rough roads during the latter part of this journey. Blogging about the paintings consistently once per day was easy enough at the start but personal issues came in during the last several months which stretched out the postings. If some of you waited regularly for the paintings, I apologize for this.
The good news though is that I did manage to complete all 365 small paintings in 365 days, with the exception of one day when I worked on this bigger non-daily painting instead:
I made up for that when I painted these two chilis in one day though:
I am really excited to be able to show all of you this milestone (for me). I can’t say how grateful I am to everyone who purchased my paintings — thank you so much for your support! And not least, I am also thankful to those of you who took the time to comment and patiently shared this journey with me. For those who commented during the past several months, I have not been able to reply to most of you personally but I want you all to know just how much I appreciate your words of encouragement. Here’s a virtual hug to everyone!
Just for fun, here is the 365th side by side with the very first daily painting I did:
Here is a picture showing the painting on the easel where I did virtually all of the “dailies”:
And last, here are those avocados one more time. Behind me you can see a preview of what’s coming up on this blog:

Two of my fellow members at Daily Painter Originals, Leslie Saeta and Dreama Tolle Perry, are holding a fundraiser to help artist Annie Salness who recently had a stroke. She is recovering and the funds raised from the “Art Walk for Annie” campaign will help pay her medical expenses. I am donating the proceeds from the sale of this painting to the fund. If you would like to know more about “Art Walk for Annie” or how you can help her, please visit this website that Leslie has put together.
By the way, this is the next to last painting before the 365th.

I’m not sure why but I had a very difficult time trying to get the colors to match the original painting and some parts are still a bit off. This is now #361 — getting really close to the “finish line”!

Only 5 more to post to complete the first 365 of daily paintings! Here’s a new subject — okra. I have considered painting them for quite some time now, but I never got around to it because I couldn’t find a composition I wanted to paint.

Playing a little with “glowing edges” around those green sprouts. This is something I would like to incorporate more into my work. I think it adds a lot of drama to a painting.
