This orchid bud was done using leftover oil paint that I had from the previous day’s session. My reference was a pencil sketch that I did from life a few years ago. Somehow the monochrome effect didn’t look right as I was painting it, but in the end, I liked it and thought it had a “classic” feel to it.

I really enjoyed painting “Happy New Year” so I decided to do another one with a similar concept. Thinking of subjects for these trompe l’oeils is just as much fun as painting them and trying to make them look realistic.

These are shells of clams I kept many years ago. I remember that I would always want to keep the shells whenever we had clams for dinner. I didn’t really know what I would do with them, but I loved looking at the different patterns. Some shells were thick and looked like shiny laminated wood on the outside while some were thin and delicate. All of them are beautiful.

Here’s another chinese vase. The best part was “hand painting” the design on the vase. I like how the rim and gold lines turned out. What I don’t like are the uneven sides and the incorrect perspective of the base and rim. Unfortunately, I only noticed the mistakes when I scanned it!

Here is the pigeon orchid (dendrobium crumenatum) in bloom. I like these delicate white flowers. They began to wilt even as I was painting them though.

This is the first time I’m painting the Pigeon Orchid (dendrobium crumenatum). Our little plant has actually bloomed before, but I wasn’t quick enough to paint the flowers then. My Mom and I were new to the Pigeon Orchid and we were more accustomed to longer blooming orchids. I was very surprised when these wilted after only a few hours! I made sure to catch the blooms (and bud) this time though.

Garlic is definitely one of my most favorite subjects to paint, and my most favorite part to do in a garlic painting is putting on the thin white tips of the cloves.
