Well, here’s my 100th daily painting! I wanted to paint something special so this is bigger than the ACEOs I have been posting lately. I also searched quite a bit for that special subject and/or composition. At first, I thought I’d do another avocado like the first daily painting, but since I couldn’t get any avocados, I settled on oranges. I chose this composition because I think it represents “100” perfectly without being too obvious.

I’m dedicating this painting to my Mom, who encouraged me to do the daily paintings in the first place, and who’s been very supportive.

It’s been a good 100 days and I’ve learned so much about oil painting. I’ve been able to paint ordinary things which I never thought would have potential in a painting before. It’s truly a wonderful experience to slow down and examine details and all the beautiful things that God has created for us. Everything is beautiful!

There is still so much to learn, and my plan is to keep this up for at least a year. But we’ll see where it goes. One thing’s for sure though — I’m looking forward to the next 100! I hope you are too!

Thank you to friends and subscribers who left comments and gave their support! Also, many thanks to other daily painters, especially to Michael Naples and Painting-a-Day pioneer Duane Keiser, for the inspiration.

I took a break from the Dancing Lady ACEO orchid series to paint this apple. For me, the overhead view of an apple is one of the most difficult to paint right, but somehow, I always end up liking the finished painting.

To my e-mail subscribers: I have been having some problems with the mailing list as sometimes links do not work and some images do not show up. I’m not sure if you’re experiencing the same problems, but I am working hard to get a new mailing list program up and running. It may take a little time, so I hope you will bear with me. Until then, should you come across those broken links and disappearing images, just click on my blog URL at the end of each e-mail or copy it to your address bar. The latest post will always be on top. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience!

I had some time to do a larger painting in between the ACEOs. I liked working on this bird of paradise — it seemed to paint itself! I also like how the black background makes the orange more striking.

I’m nearing my 100th post on this blog. I’m quite pleased to say that there hasn’t been a day since I joined in the painting-a-day challenge when I haven’t finished at least one oil painting…yet.

Why am I saying this? Well, I have recently been working on some commissions and I wanted to devote as much time as possible to them. Rather than temporarily stopping the daily paintings (and breaking my streak!), I decided to create tiny, ACEO oil paintings. So for the next few weeks, you will be seeing more of these little paintings. I hope you like them!

What is “ACEO”?
ACEO stands for “Art Cards, Editions and Originals”. These are small artworks measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Because of their small size, artists are able to offer a more affordable way for people to collect their artworks.

Subjects can be anything from pets to flowers, and styles range from the highly detailed to the abstract. Artists also use a variety of mediums to create these little masterpieces. Examples are oils, pastels, colored pencils and even “black and white” mediums like charcoal and graphite pencils. Whatever the medium or style, ACEOs are a great way to start your own original art collection!

By the way, if you wish to commission me for a realistic portrait in pencil or in charcoal, please visit my pencil drawings gallery. Or feel free to e-mail me at: faith@artisticrealism.com
