I had some time to do a larger painting in between the ACEOs. I liked working on this bird of paradise — it seemed to paint itself! I also like how the black background makes the orange more striking.

I’m nearing my 100th post on this blog. I’m quite pleased to say that there hasn’t been a day since I joined in the painting-a-day challenge when I haven’t finished at least one oil painting…yet.

Why am I saying this? Well, I have recently been working on some commissions and I wanted to devote as much time as possible to them. Rather than temporarily stopping the daily paintings (and breaking my streak!), I decided to create tiny, ACEO oil paintings. So for the next few weeks, you will be seeing more of these little paintings. I hope you like them!

What is “ACEO”?
ACEO stands for “Art Cards, Editions and Originals”. These are small artworks measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Because of their small size, artists are able to offer a more affordable way for people to collect their artworks.

Subjects can be anything from pets to flowers, and styles range from the highly detailed to the abstract. Artists also use a variety of mediums to create these little masterpieces. Examples are oils, pastels, colored pencils and even “black and white” mediums like charcoal and graphite pencils. Whatever the medium or style, ACEOs are a great way to start your own original art collection!

By the way, if you wish to commission me for a realistic portrait in pencil or in charcoal, please visit my pencil drawings gallery. Or feel free to e-mail me at: faith@artisticrealism.com

I’ve always wanted to try painting candies in their clear cellophane wrappers. A good challenge. The lettering was fun to do too!
